Initial Teacher Education

Our vision is a school system that nurtures the talents of teachers and leaders at all stages of their careers, so they can provide children with the excellent education they deserve.

Together with three other leading multi-academy trusts, Star Academies, Outwood Grange Academies Trust and Oasis Community Learning, we have formed a national school-led organisation called the National Institute of Teaching (NIoT).

We offer year-long primary and secondary teacher training programmes to graduates and career changers joining the teaching profession through our school centred programme. We offer a strong support network and exciting environment in which to train, ensuring that our trainee teachers complete the course feeling supported, confident and well-prepared for their future carers.

All our teacher training courses lead to QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education). We provide first class training, invaluable school and classroom practice and opportunities to learn on-the-job at one of our placements within the Harris Federation or our brilliant partner schools. We work in partnership with the University of Birmingham to deliver the PGCE element of our programme.

Our trainees benefit from bespoke weekly Core Training with their fellow trainees; additional tailored subject-specific training days; personalised mentoring; NIoT team support and a second placement in a contrasting school environment. Trainees with us can earn a salary or receive a bursary, subject to eligibility, while you train.
