How to become a teacher with the NIoT

The following section is relevant for all applications to our fee-paying and salaried ITE courses. For PGTA applications, please visit the Post Graduate Teaching Apprenticeship page. 

The application window is open. Register to apply today! You can also attend one of the information events held by the NIoT, to learn more about training to teach with us, and ask questions that are specific to you. Visit Events at the NIoT 

1. You’ll need to work out the answers to the following questions before applying: Are you applying for primary or secondary? Which subject will you be specialising in? Are there any bursaries available for your subject? If not, what funding route would be best for you? 

2. Interview in the region you'd like to teach. If you are applying for a salaried position, you will attend a second interview with your placement school, if you are successful at the first interview with NIoT. 

3. Following a successful interview outcome and once you have been made an offer, you need to accept your offer on DfE Apply to secure your training place (Your offer will be subject to meeting certain conditions and safeguarding checks).
