English Hubs

We are delighted to be working with our local English Hubs. English Hubs work with primary schools, in EYFS and Key Stage 1 to support the DfE’s 3 priority areas:

• Phonics and early reading provision including encouraging best practice in systematic synthetic phonics teaching  
• Oral language development
• Reading for Pleasure

There are two English Hubs that work with schools in our region – Whiteknights Primary School, Reading and Wandle English Hub at Chesterton Primary School in Battersea. Their offer includes:

• Sharing of best practice in action at our showcase events.
• School-based audits of early language and reading provision.
• Become a Partner School to benefit from in-school support run by our team of Literacy Specialists.
• Funding or match funding schools to buy resources including validated phonics packages and training.
• Training in developing Reading for Pleasure. 
• A Half-termly Reading Leader network of expertise to provide support and advice for leaders of English. 

Wandle English Hub serves 16 boroughs: Bexley, Bromley, Camden, City of London, Croydon, Greenwich, Hounslow, Kingston, Lambeth, Lewisham, Merton, Richmond upon Thames, Southwark, Sutton, Wandsworth and Westminster.

2024-25 CPD

Successful applicants' schools will be able to claim £80 per session towards the cost of cover to support attendance at these events. Use the links below to find out more and express your interest.

Reading Ambition for All is a new, research based CPD programme aimed at primary English, Reading and Phonics Leads. During the course of the programme participants explore research and best practice for teaching children who need the most support to learn to read, including those with SEND.

Transforming your School's Reading culture a sustained, research based CPD programme aimed at primary English Leads. During the course of the programme participants will engage deeply with reading for pleasure pedagogy and leadership theory to transform their school’s reading culture.

Supporting Early Language Development is a CPD programme designed to equip teachers and leaders with a practical pedagogical understanding of both typical language development and also how to support pupils who are struggling with language acquisition.

Whiteknights English Hub serves eligible schools in the south of England to assess their phonics provision, select and purchase a validated SSP programme.
