NIOT Research Study: Professional Development & High Pupil Disadvantage
This research project explores recent government reforms around teacher professional development, across ITE, ECF and NPQs, termed the ‘golden thread’. It examines how this is currently working for schools, and how schools are getting the most out of it.
For this research (now - June 2025), we want to understand how schools are delivering PD; identify practices for maximising the benefits of ITE, ECF, and NPQs for the school; identify any challenges, and approaches to overcoming these. We will be able to use these findings to make tangible changes to reform our programme design, as well as share with the DfE and other providers, and develop and share resources to support other schools to make the most of golden thread PD.
