Director of ITE
What does your role entail?
As the Director of Initial Teacher Education (ITE), I have responsibility for the oversight and quality assurance of the training provision for our primary and secondary phase trainees and teaching apprentices. In my role, I enjoy working with a wide range of stakeholders including the NIoT National and Faculty Leads of ITE, our fantastic East, South and London Tutor team, and in our placements schools the Mentors, Managing Mentors and Principals. Most importantly, I love working with our trainee teachers. Having the opportunity to be a part of their support system and to contribute to their development is inspiring.
What are your credentials/experience to your current position?
I have worked in education in a variety of roles for 18 years. I moved from Lincolnshire to London to complete my teacher training, fell in love with the city and since then I have worked in a number of schools across South London with some brilliant and inspirational staff and students! Prior to starting my work in Initial Teacher Education one of my roles was as an Assistant Principal and Advanced Skills Teacher (AST) with the responsibility of looking after new teachers, and prior to that I worked as a teacher of Design and Technology, which remains a passion.
What is the highlight of your role?
When I visit our placement schools and see so many Alumni in teaching, ITE mentoring, middle and senior leader roles, I am humbled! Seeing their training coming full circle as they work with our current trainee teachers in particular, sparks a joy in me! Long may it continue.
Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.
